Definitions

School enrollment reports on persons actively enrolled in an educational institution at the time of the survey. On this page, the following grade levels are used:

  • Preschool: anything before kindergarten, typically anything between ages 2 and 4
  • Kindergarten: the year before first grade, typically around age 5
  • Grades 1-12: typically started at age 6 and lasting until age 17 or 18
  • Undergraduate: in this context, it means and two or four year college, but excluding any graduate education
  • Graduate School: anything above undergraduate, including pursuit of master's, professional, or doctorate degrees
